EX002-26 – Operation Hot Water An SYLI Expedition Peppersauce Cave – Oracle, Arizona 14 March 2026 On a beautiful Saturday morning, the Sonoran Youth Leadership Initiative conducted Expedition 002-26, Operation Hot Water, to test the water conditions inside Peppersauce Cave near Oracle, Arizona. Over several weeks, the Vanguard planned the mission from SYLI headquarters in Coolidge. They identified the problem to be solved, developed a logistics plan for travel to the cave, created a detailed timeline, and determined which water sources would be tested and what analysis would be conducted. Upon arrival, the team entered the cave and conducted water sampling and testing of the Main Lake. Tests included temperature, clarity, color, odor, pH, hardness, lead, iron, nitrates, nitrites, alkalinity, free chlorine, total chlorine, turbidity, and bacteria. The expedition consisted of one Vanguard and three staff members. Although the numbers were few, the Vanguard Commander lead her team to the successful the successful completion of all mission objectives according to the planned timeline. Samples were collected, field tests were conducted, and data was gathered for the forthcoming Water Analysis Report. Operation Hot Water demonstrated the Vanguard’s ability to plan, deploy, lead, execute, and return from a real-world field mission using structured youth leadership and operational planning. The mission was successful, and EX002 Operation Hot water is now part of SYLI expedition history.
